Blog Clients for Windows and Mac users
November 30, 2005
Blog Clients : Ok, let me start off by saying this applies to people who actually run real blogs
im not talking about the automated rss to blogging.. as they really cant be classed as quality blogs.. they even have a name for themselves " Splogs " basically spammy crap.
If you are running more than 2 blogs and your finding it difficult to add images, links, basically you dont like your blogs interface, then you might want to consider a Blog Client which is basically software to manage your posting and editing.
The question then comes what blog clients are available on the market for windows and macintosh users? and which one is worth getting?
Well I would like to think that I have and still am a guineau pig for blogging clients on the internet as I have pretty much tried all the main ones out there and have run them through every known scenario, which in turn has let me see what worked, what didnt work and what was just plain crappy.
Let me start of by saying when it comes to macintosh. I havent tried software for that, as I dont have a mac.. so I really cant provide solid info on that.. BUT i will say that a good friend of mine uses a mac and he swears by a peice of software called ECTO right now ecto has software for macintosh and windows but the windows is not a WYSIWYG editor and so I really cannot recommend it. But I will recommend Ecto MAC version on the basis of my friend who hasnt run into any major bugs or issues. I will update this with a windows review when they get the WYSIWYG version out.
Ok so that leaves us with Windows users.. What blogging software clients are online that you have used Jon? well there are 3 online and here is the breakdown.
BlogJet
Post2blog
Rocketpost
There are a couple of others but they dont have no way as many features as these 3, so when it comes to which one is the best.. its very easy at the time of this writing to scratch off your list Anconia.. the reason is, at a first glance the software installed fine, and looked really nice.. but the Guide was a pile of crap it was the worst guide i have ever seen. The guy must have been on acid when he was typing it out.
Rocketpost has major bugs, everything from account adding, posting and well the insane guide.. If I was you just download it for a laugh to see what I am on about.Seriously the price on this thing is like $97, the support guy I think is like smoking marijuana as he really cannot answer your questions, and rattles on about something totally unrelated to your question. Support is email only. There is a trial version of this software.. Thank God.. I didnt hand over my money for this. Time will tell if the guy comes out of the cloud of ganja to make a program that actually works!
BlogJet
Ok I own this one, yep I bought it even though it has a trial, and the reason is simple. It works!.. isn"t it great when you buy software and it actually works lol..I mean I do like to have shortcuts on my desktop that go to software that dont work.. as it makes my desktop look pretty but.. sure is great when the software works!.
Now there are a few features that are missing from this software but the owner is creating updates and working on it, so I strongly believe this client will lead the way in windows blog clients … if he can get a move on.. otherwise I have a sneaky feeling that EKTO is going to release theres soon for windows with the WYSIWYG and they will blow them out the water. Ok so things missing from this software are, the ability to add tags, I could write on this but that link explains it a heck of a lot better than I would and its quicker for me. Its missing being able to store a ping list but apparently in the next update that will be included. It is also missing the ability to add amazon links to products.. But I have asked that be added in soon. Overall. .it works and costs $39.95 . has a 30 day trial too.. so give a spin yourself
Post2Blog
Ok Post2Blog - handy desktop blogging client has been a love hate relationship for me lol.. as I originally started with this software but ran into numerous issues that caused me to contact the support guy several times.. and finally I decided to leave it for a few weeks for the guy to fix issues.. since then he has fixed all those issues and as it stands.. I own this software too as it has even more features than BlogJet.. Some of the things I like about it are, ability to add tags, abiulity to add snippets.. idea of what a snippet is.. is where you assign a url or a peice of html code to a hot key and then all you have to do is hit the hotkey and doing!.. your link appears or whatever.. example is the link here that says Post2Blog as soon as i typed that word it created a link.
Now before you say ok bro.. so this software is the one to get.. hold up.. im still finding the odd issue with the program and untill he fixes them im going to say stick with blogjet for now.. there free trial and in 30 days check back here on this post.. as i will update it with any changes in those bugs being fixed. Personally right now though im using a combination of Post2Blog and BlogJet..
Tips: To make sure when you use these clients that your IMAGES show up on your blog.. you have to do 2 things to your wordpress blog. you have to set your folder called WP-CONTENT to 7777 permissions. and then log into your wordpress admin and go under OPTIONS then under Miscellaneous and click the check box to select uploads.. and change 300 to say about 1000.. this way the software will be able to upload the images to your folder, otherwise you will get errors.
Hope that helps. feel free to post your comments.. or questions.

John,
I think you’ll find this blog software to be quite impressive. It replaced ecto as my software for blog posting. www.qumana.com

Hi Jon,
I too favor Post2Blog, exactly because the programmers are so responsive to add the functionality that I need. I will give you one clear example.
One thing I’ve always missed while writing about something I came across on the web was that I wouldn’t be able to trace back how I ended up on that page—I clearly would want to publicly thank or credit that author for pointing me to interesting stuff. When the ByteScout people heard of this interest within a few days they added a document referrer feature to Post2Blog.
Have you tried using SnagIt with Post2Blog? They work along so nicely: just define a SnagIt profile, press a hotkey and any screenshot that you take will be immediately added to your blog post.
These courtesies and numerous other smart features make me want to stay with Post2Blog and help to improve it even further.

Hi Marjolein, yeah the creator of post2blog is very quick in responding and getting on top of issues.. I give him that and thats why for the most part I have stuck with that. I kind of go back and forth between that and blogjet.. when I encounter an issue with one.
good to hear feedback from you
